Kings Weston House Weddings

I am completely delighted to introduce 'Kings Weston House' a wedding venue situated on the outskirts of Bristol and very recently refurbished.

Kings Weston House was built between 1712 and 1719, is a Grade 1 listed building and one of Bristol's hidden treasures. Designed by the famous architect Sir John Vanbrugh who also designed Blenhiem Palace, this private home has opened it's doors to weddings and events from September 2013.

There are lots of very beautiful rooms you can have a reception or get married in.

The Portrait gallery holds 100 for ceremony and can also be used for reception drinks. Situated at the front of the house this room is very light and airy. A real fairy tale room. Your guests can watch you step out of your car or horse drawn carriage and walk down the aisle.

The Grand Staircase holds 120 for the ceremony and can also be used for reception drinks. Its a breathtaking room where you can wow your guests by walking down from the sweeping staircase.

The Vanbrugh suite holds 100 for the ceremony and 120 for a wedding breakfast and has views across to Wales.

They also have a gentleman's style bar and other smaller rooms suitable for all events.

We had a fab opening with a wedding fayre that I will blog very soon but for now you can look at

If you would like to view the house or need more information please contact -

Today we re-visit a place we discovered on our Cotham walk... Hair at 58. We loved the glamorous salon and the lovely staff so decided to find out a bit more about them and let you all know about this lovely spot.

Hair at 58 opened in 2009 on Cotham Hill by Sam Bell, a then 30 year old hairdresser with a dream of creating a beautiful salon. Hair at 58 has gone from strength to strength and was awarded the British Hairdressing business award for independent salon business newcomer in 2011, followed by a nomination for salon of the year in 2012.

Tell us about your team

The salon is a beautiful really glamorous place to be pampered tells us what services you offer to brides to be?

We can tailor wedding packages to suit your needs. We offer bridal trials, manicures and Aveda make-up, as well as essential maintenance (spray tanning, tinting, waxing) prior to the big day. Bob and Damien, a Civil Partnership

It was a really memorable day as Bob and Damien were just the loveliest couple ever and the planning process was SO much fun... get ready we couldn't have possible whittled the photographs down any more than we did...

They arrived by boat, in the beautiful Patience....

Then the whole wedding party headed to Queens Square for some music and drinks in the sunshine...

What an amazing backdrop for wedding photographs!

Meanwhile we changed the restaurant around ready for the wedding breakfast... there was a little Mr Men theme going on...

They had a great British Bake Off theme for their cakes, with guests each bringing something to be judged later on in the evening... before everyone tucked in. We have never seen such a spread of wedding cakes, sweets and treats!

Bob and Damien had thought of everything turning our parade into a games area to keep non-dancers entertained...

Not that there were many non-dancers, the dancefloor was packed!

Seriously a beautiful day with a beautiful couple, we absolutely adored their speech were they mostly praised and showered their friends and family with love.

Congratulations again Bob and Damien! Please re-new your vows with us!!! xx

Clifton Wedding Walk...

So following on from our last jaunt around Bristol in Cotham, this time we hit the shops in and around Clifton Village, swooping in on many of our most favourite friends and new found lovelies...

We of course have to mention the wonderful Bridal store The Mews, here are a few words from the wonderful ladies themselves;

"The Mews Emporium is situated in the heart of beautiful Clifton Village in Bristol. The luxurious bridal boutique offers timeless romanticism and enduring elegance, capturing the spirit of the past with an essence of today.

The boutique will seduce you from the moment you walk through the door, with its inviting décor, opulent chandeliers and a myriad of shimmering gowns created by the very best in British bridal couture. Their collection of wedding dresses are passionately curated and draw on the talents and vision of the most popular and dynamic bridal designers today, including Jenny Packham, Suzanne Neville and Stephanie Allin."

"The team of bridal stylists at The Mews are highly trained in couture, experienced in fashion and textiles and provide the very highest level of customer service. They work with passion and dedication to ensure you find your perfect dress because they believe every wedding dress should not only be exquisite and head-turning but also reflect the unique individuality of every one of their brides."

I cannot recommend The Mews enough, make sure you visit for a big huge swoon!
Clifton Village has more than its fair share of jewellers, and if you're looking for something vintage you'll find something beautiful here in one of the many tiny independent jewellers.
There is also John Titcombe Jewellers, if you have no idea what you want this is the best place to start the choice is huge, which also means if you know exactly what you want they will almost certainly have it.

If you are after something more individual they also do commissions, you could have something designed especially for you, what could be more special?

Call in at JohnTitcombe and sit down with one of their knowledgeable staff, who know all abut the details of diamonds and try on to your hearts content. They can also kit you both out with the all important wedding bands as well.

Lisa Elliot FloralDesign should definitely be on your must see list when planning your flowers. Lisa and her team will work with you to develop your ideas and work with you and your budget.

The shop is also super cute, make sure to take a little hand tie home with you as well, celebrate!

They work a lot with venues in Bristol and the South West and can create everything you need to decorate your day, from the Bridal bouquets, to church pew decorations and table centrepieces, Lisa Elliot can fulfil all your needs. So we have covered three of the most important parts of your wedding shopping list, but what of the gifts.

Pod... a beautiful home and gift store on the Mall, maybe you're a guest at a wedding. Pod will certainly have something fit for the Bride and Groom. Maybe even ask for gift vouchers from Pod to kit out your marital home instead of registering.

Stocking beautiful LSA glassware, Designers Guild, Big Tomato Company ceramics, Caroline Gardner and many more Pod is certainly well stocked and their staff will be happy to help you choose a gift.

On the day of the wedding it is the norm for the girls to get pampered while the men... drink beer? Why not treat your groomsmen as well and pay a visit to a traditional barbers for a proper wet shave and trim.

The Bristol Barber Co is a beautiful barber shop, and perfect for an amazing backdrop for the getting ready photographs of the men, I so wish I had thought of this on my big day.

One more little spot we also have to mention is Lahloo Pantry, maybe break up your day of shopping by visiting for some tea and cake and asking after their cute little tea tins for some wedding favours (see our blog here for a photo)

image from Lahloo Tea

Another mention has to go to Cordial and Grace, which can host simply lovely hen parties, want to do something other than drink yourself into a horrid hangover? Or just as well as?

The parties include a delicious afternoon tea and an activity such as garter making, how fun!

The cafe is super gorgeous too.
These are some of our favourite places in the village, and all of them are independent, proving once again you do not need to visit big faceless chains, and Bristol has a wealth of experienced people who really care about you and your wedding. Go visit them!
We have though, missed some great spots all gathered together in the Clifton Arcade, so we have decided to revisit Clifton very soon and write a little guide for them all of their own.

The Travelling Chapel

A quirky little find by Michele we just had to share with you...

Sistine Gears is a self-contained 'art-lorry' built in the form of a two story fairytale church, how cool is that?

Perfect for a festival wedding!

From the group;

"We are a small art collective who, last year, built a 2 storey mobile
church with a pop up spire built from a 7.5 tonne lorry that can provide a
mobile or stationary venue. We originally built this for a contemporary
arts festival and we got an amazing reception from the public. We think it
would make a brilliant feature or venue idea for an alternative wedding and
have received great interest from Wedding Fairs and their organisers. As
well as a venue, it can be fitted out with a sound system (with house DJs
if you so wish) and can also be used as a cocktail bar."
